Abstract The purpose of this master thesis is twofold. First, the development of a production and logistic control management concept for Danisco Sugars 1 and 2 kg packed sugar supply chain in DK, N and IS. Second, the exploration and evaluation of Lean Thinking (LT) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) in a control management concept context. After the introduction of LT and SCM the Danisco Sugar project is described. Afterwards follow the analysis of Danisco Sugar including its environment, strategy, goals and system. On the basis of the analysis different design variables are discussed and then the final design and implementation is described. Although LT and SCM prove themselves to form an excellent and inspiring theoretical foundation for development of the production and logistic control management concept they don’t provide the full basis for the analysis, design and implementation. Therefore LT and SCM are supplemented with different theories from our graduate courses within industrial management including organisational and strategy management theories. The final production and logistic control management concept is based on following principles: • Partial centralised planning • Partial reactive planning • Greater formalization of planning routines • Process orientation • Synchronization of demand, stock and production • Reduction of batch sizes and changeover times in the sugar packaging Which leads to estimated half year savings of 2.17 mio. dkk. Based on the insight of the control management problems in Danisco Sugars supply chains it is our belief that there is a great saving potential that far surpass the needed resources, in implementing a general production and logistic control management concept.
