Abstract Abstract The purpose of this thesis is the Simulation of the Next Generation Syn- thetic Aperture Radar system with Advance Design System (ADS) software tool. The "Next Generation Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)" is a research program carried out in the section for Electromagnetic Systems at the Tech- nical University of Denmark. This research focuses on improvements in terms of performance, cost, and size of SAR systems. These objectives de- mands improved design methods and technology for complex microwave sen- sor systems in order to provide high spatial resolution. The present project will focus on the analog part. Emphasis will be put on the subsystems that have been identi¯ed as critical for the system performance. They are the I/Q modulator/demodulator and RF-up/down converter. SAR systems, such SAR++, are complex. Thus, making use of some kind of simulation tool could help in its design and study of its features. In order to carry out a SAR system study, which is the aim of the present project, °exible and a modular system simulator has to be chosen, which is able to perform simulations on circuit, component, unit, and system level. Agi- lent Advanced Design System (ADS) 2003C is chosen to carry out SAR++ system analysis.
