Title Improving a Production System at GNReSound

Abstract This work illustrates significant improvements of the production system at GN ReSound. Several analyses have been performed with the purpose of identifying areas of improvement in order to improve GN ReSounds competitiveness on the global market. The analyses include studies of the product portfolio, the lead time and the work-in-process. Based on the analyses different theories and tools have been applied to improve the overall performance of the production system. The analyses illustrate that there is great potential for reducing the complexity of the production system, along with the lead time and the amount of work-in-process. By applying the theory of Mass Customization the complexity of the system has been reduced greatly. To improve the production flow and hereby reducing the lead time and the amount of work-in-process, tools such as Value Stream Mapping and Static-and Dynamic Analysis have been used. The work concludes, that the lead time can be reduced from 14 days to 2 days, which reduces the working capital with 2.9 million kr due to less work-in-process. In addition, it is concluded that the number of operators can be reduced by 20 percent, which equals an annual saving of 1.3 million kr.
