Abstract The purpose of this work has been to analise overlay welding, made to withstand corrosive attack of fumes and incinerative products from waste incineration, on waterwalls. Overlay welding in this project is analysed from an experimental point of view. At Babcock & Wilcox Vølund in Esbjerg panels are made for the waste incineration plants in Denmark. Their problem is to make waterwalls so they can withstand the very corrosive environment in the boilers. The project shows valuable results that can be worked with to improve overlay welding of waterwalls. The most important perspective is that the welding system at Vølund needs to be more precise in setup. If the "work piece to welding gun distance" can be limited to small variations, the use of hot wire addition can be realised. This offers the lowest dilution weld overlay with higher productivity.
