Abstract This project has compared the principle that; "structure must follow strategy" with the principle that; "structure and strategy must be developed together", by using supply network thinking and organizational thinking as a example. The project has found that there are several advantages in building on the strength of the structure, and develop the structure alongside the strategy. The structure could be a significant hindrance to any strategy which didn't respect the strength and weaknesses of the structure, and that it was especially true in small- and medium sized organization with limited resources to make changes to their structure.
