Abstract Internet bureaus and other companies that produce Web applications on a regular basis often use development frameworks ranging from highly tailored proprietary systems to more widespread open-source frameworks. The goal of a Web application framework should be the ability of deploying rapid, error-free and highly personalised Web applications. However most of these systems prove to have short-comings when it comes to usability. In this thesis a new approach to such a system is given. The approach is model-driven in the sense that a Web application is created by importing a number of UML-based models into the Web application framework. The framework transforms these models into a real Web application that can be refined within the framework. The approach integrates and applies ideas from the UWE Web development method, which is a model-driven UML-based method separating the various aspects of Web design, i.e., process view, content view, navigation view and presentation view. A prototype for the framework is developed based on existing software from Limestone, and a test application is built step-by-step in order to prove the concept of the framework.
