Abstract This thesis describes a volumetric approach to indirect illumination of a scene in computer graphics. The method computes light in an environment which has been modeled as a volumetric grid, and the goal is to get visual results comparable to those of methods like radiosity, but with a runtime that is closer to that of realtime computer graphic techniques. Originally described by Rune Vendler, the method is implemented, analyzed and compared to existing indirect illumination methods, and then extended with functionality which should yield more visually realistic results. Finally a possible approach to a shader implementation of the method is described, and further extensions are proposed.
