Abstract This report was made as part of my Bachelor of Engineering project. It covers implementation of a new, and now patented, approach to estimate the spectral information in medical ultrasound. The new approach makes it possible to do spectral estimation on a sparse set of input data. In this way, pulses to obtain B-mode information can be emitted between flow shots without reducing the pulse repetition frequency of the flow shots. The approach has been implemented on a SHARC ADSP-21060 in a Viking 2400 ultrasound scanner from BK Medical A/S. Due to a 10 week project period, improvements and more complex tests can still be made. However, the tests carried out in this project recealed that the approach is a promising substitute to the existing block-interleaved approach. The approach has also been compared to the existing Fourier approach in normal mode. These tests showed only small differences in the spectrograms.
