||The market for rapid prototyping machines is quickly developing, with more versatile and precise machines
launched every year. Smaller companies, however, are often compelled to be mere spectators to these
advances. They cannot justify buying into this technology, since the cost of purchase and the expensive
building material used, is still beyond their budget´s reach. This large segment of users is thus excluded
from the advantages of having in-house prototyping capabilities.
With inspiration from existing technologies, a new method based solely on standard and cost-effective
parts is devised. The method is verified through a series of tests, and allows for the cost-effective
production of three-dimensional models of a quality comparable to existing professional machines.
The initial verification laid out some potential risks with the new method, which the existing test lineup
failed to investigate further. A prototype, which allows further testing and a better verification of the
technology, has been developed.
