Abstract This Master thesis presents a survey of the global illumination model, ray tracing, along with the most commonly used data structures and algorithms for high performance ray tracing. It then analyzes, implements and compares two different types of parallel ray tracing, finding that the most commonly used type of parallel ray tracing performs 55 to 64 percent better than its counterpart.
