||User-focused design process covers a design process for an example of a new product, where the users of the product are in focus. This thesis is build up around this specific kind of design process where many different users are in center. To strengthen the user-focused design process different method from the participatory design process is included, which also focus-es on users.
This thesis gives a solution to the problem statement which is about com-munication between design companies and their customers. Here the focus is more specific on the first meeting between design companies and their customers.
My experience and my analyze shows that misunderstandings often appears in these kind of cooperation, because the actors do not speak the same lan-guage and do not possess the same professional background. Through use of the Actor-Network Theory the different relations between the design company Harrit&Sørensen and their customers are described, where it be-comes obvious that the so called boundary object can help the communica-tion, dialog and common understanding between the different parts.
The boundary object consist in this thesis of a design game called the H&S game which is developed through different workshops, interviews and so on with the involved actors. The structure of the H&S game is build upon the theory of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner. This theory is about all human beings learn in different ways, some by reading, and others by touching or visualizing. There are all in all eight kinds of intelligences, which all are influenced in larger or smaller extent through the H&S game. This secures that all participants is influenced in a way.
Beside the boundary object, the H&S game, the staging also have an impact on the relations between the different parts around the first meeting. The staging is in this context for an example the physical artifacts as the meeting room, how the actors’ body language is and which kind of clothes the partic-ipants’ wears. These are described as non measurable parameters which I only can recommend the design company to be aware of when they are going to the first meeting with a new customer. Through boundary object, the H&S game and staging the communication and dialog are improved which ease the problem around cooperation between design companies and their customers.
