Abstract Orthophoto mosaics are composed from several overlapping images that may be taken under different lighting conditions. To create seamless stitchings, color corrections are needed. This thesis investigates methods for automatic color matching of individual images. The main result is a correction model producing RGB transformation matrices for each image, by globally minimizing the color difference of overlaps between each pair of neighbor images. The model can be solved as a linear system of equations, and for larger image blocks, the method may be applied recursively to allow parallelization of computations. Evaluation of corrected image blocks by a test panel show improvement of image matchings, compared to uncorrected images or simpler correction methods, while still retaining good overall color properties.
