Abstract It is said, that the main bulk of our communications, in the western world, has through the last few decades shifted from the analogue to the digital realm, primarily propelled by the rise the Internet. A lot of attention has been given to the immediate effects of digitalization, such as gains in efficiency and expanded connectivity. But what consequences does this new digital media have for the ideas which it is mediating? From the perspective of contemporary art I have examined how cultural / aesthetic objects now also increasingly are being digitized and how this digitization creates a new digital aesthetic. An artwork can be seen as a creation of a conceptual space, which the audience is invited to interact with. So one can not only consider the effects of digital reproduction of physical objects, but also the new opportunities to facilitate conceptual spaces, presented by digital media. Traditionally galleries, museums and public exhibition host this interaction between audience and artist, influencing it themselves through architecture, historical context and curatorial profile. Digitization allows an instantaneous view of the past and the present, making it possible to both act as a presenter of new and collection / database of the old. In cooperation with Nikolaj, Copenhagen Contemporary Arts Center this project has attempted to map out a framework of how present works of art through their website. A framework which takes into consideration the technical, cultural and organizational limits and opportunities.
