Abstract The following report is written as a result of the bachelor project on the Software Technology study line at DTU. The report elucidates the theory of how a search engine is created to search in a database containing publications. The first part will go through a series of steps in order to build the data structure. At first it will be a linked lists which will be used and later this will be upgraded to be using a hashtable containing the authors. After the basic steps, the data structure in the program will be optimized. This includes replacing the linked list in the hashtable to be an array of integers, where each integer is a reference to another list containing all the authors. Likewise all the publications in the program, will be stored in a single array and each of the authors will contain a list of integer references to that publication array. After this, the search functionality will be expanded by implementing a series of functionalities. This includes, but is not limited to the following: Searching for publications by the date they were written, searching for publications whose titles begin or end with a certain word. Furthermore a simple spellcorrection has been implemented, which will yield results even if a word contains one misspelt letter in comparison to the word that is searched for. A third option is a boolean search, using the "&&" and "||" symbols to concatenate the search results by intersection and unication. Additionally a graphical user interface has been implemented, offering an overview of the searches and the functionalities in the program.
