Abstract Information exchange is one of the most natural methods of gaining knowledge and collecting lacking data. People ask questions in order to complete their knowledge. Let us imagine a person who is lost in a foreign city and tries locate himself on a map. In most of the cases he will ask a first person met to help him identify his location. Wen we don't know what is the time now we also ask people nearby. Similar situations can be imagined in case of the mobile device. If the device gets to the new location (context) where it is for the first time, it has no information and thus no possibility to identify the area. Idea behind the collaborative approach context awareness is to allow devices exchanging of the context data from their sensors with each other as well as with different services so the phone with no information could simply try asking nearby devices what do they know about current location as well as places and people nearby. Apart from the solution's architecture and technological details an important decision is what type of data has to be exchanged. Exchanged information level can vary from the low level raw sensor data values to high level labels describing context in a human readable form. Obviously there are different issues specific to each data set - users' privacy, security, data validation or accuracy to name a few.
