Abstract This thesis investigates how a majority Ghanaian held company can achieve a standardisation of procedures in regard to an EMW certification. What parameters are limiting the achieval of the desired goal and which actions are to be taken? The data consist of a Gap Analysis prepared by an independent consultant, internal audits and observations made by the author during a project period of 5 months working in the company. This data shows that the key problem areas are: Quality Assurance and Control, a slow reacting system, a vague Human Resources department and an overall lack of resources in the company. A SWOT analysis outlines that the strategy towards eliminating these problem areas are to be divided into a bilateral solution consisting of a review of the Total Quality Management System (TQMS) and an implementation process. The PDCA problem solving model shows; that the company has to emphasise their planning and reviewing procedures in order to achieve a reacting system; the foundation for a TQMS and the necessity of a Quality Plan. Kotter’s 8- step model for implementing a successful transformation process highlights the importance of commitment towards the change, the need for an improvement of communication through out the organisation, the involvement of Top Management as well as focussing on short-term wins. It is concluded that Top Management has to show their commitment, form a powerful coalition and impart the necessary resources to the process. Moreover the coalition has to focus on constructing a Quality Plan, leading by example, ensuring a proper work environment concurrent with establishing a collaborate feeling of change.
