Abstract The main purpose of the project is to determine whether or there is a relationship between Motivational Theories and Social Capital. The Motivational Theories covered in the rapport are based on analysis of needs. Furthermore the theories the rapport is based on are classical. Amongst these are Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, McGregor’s Theory X,Y, Peter Warr’s Vitamin Model and Hackman & Oldhams Job Design Theory. The term, Social Capital, covered in the rapport consists of three elements: Trust, justice and teamwork within the organization. The Social Capital is individual and varies from person to person. However another term will also be described briefly – the company’s Social Capital which is measured on the company as a whole. An exposition of the two subjects will form the basis of the theoretical connection between the Motivational Theories and Social Capital. The practical relationship will be based on an interview with Captain Lars Gullaksen, head of Naval Base Korsør. Take notice that since only one interview was made, the author can come to no general conclusions about the practical relationship from this alone.
