Abstract The aim of the project is to tackle the issues with the current OS on an embedded board by replacing it with a boot loader and a Linux kernel. The board in question is the IK7, a PXA270 SoC based custom made by Logos Design A/S, used in many situations from payment terminals to washing machines. Throughout the project, a close look will be taken into the inner workings of a boot loader and the OS of choice. Several design questions will also be investigated to provide the robustness and stability specified in the prerequisite requirements. As part of the project, if time allows, a few test applications will be written to demonstrate the capabilities of the hardware and the new OS.
