||Every day users are faced with the challenge of locating files on their computers
solely by a file name, and when it comes to data objects such as photos, emails
and songs there is no way to store extensive searchable metadata for these. A
solution to this is to assign tags to files and data objects which describes the
content of these.
Yellow Blue Soft has created an application called Tabbles which enables Windows users to tag files and browse these by defining a combination of tags. It is
found that this can be taken one step further by allowing applications tag their
data object in Tabbles, and for this an API is developed. To demonstrate the
use of object tagging, add-ins for the email clients Thunderbird and Outlook
are developed, which acts as clients towards Tabbles, making it possible for the
email clients to tag their emails in Tabbles and thus allowing the user to browse
through these along with normal data files.
The API is developed using WCF services which allows any type of application
capable of web service communication to use Tabbles. The data stored in Tabbles is so simple that it will not hinder any application from using this solution.
Tests are performed which indicate that the solution is fast, reliable and easy
