Abstract This thesis presents an appearance model for teeth. The model is based on an in depth study of subsurface scattering and diffusion theory. Theoretical components that have relevance for the model are presented. The physical components of teeth that have significance for image synthesis are also covered. Based on the appearance model for teeth, a rendering solution has been designed. The solution is able to render images of teeth in real-time (interactive frame rates on a Nvidia GTX 580) and without precomputation. The components of the solution and how they relate to the studied theory are covered. Results of image synthesis achieved by implementing the solution is presented. The advantages and disadvantages of the model and solution, found in the process of making these results, are discussed. Identified potential for further work is also presented.
