Abstract Redesign of the Vaccine Carrier first gives a short analysis of the cold-chain related to vaccine distribution from an Indian Supplier to a service delivery point in Uganda. The analysis shows that many of the issues related to the cold-chain start at the customs of the receiving country, and grow larger the further you go through the national levels. The chosen artefact for proposing a redesign is the vaccine carrier, the small cold box that is used to transport the heat-sensitive vaccines the last step out to children in remote areas. The conceptualization of the vaccine carrier results in a change of four elements of the design. Slots are made for the cooling elements in order to prevent freezing of vials, an indentation in the bottom for easier carrying on top of your head, two small indentations in the corners of the vaccine carrier for placement of vaccine during immunization and a joining of the inner foam lid and outer plastic lid. The four improvements are based on workshops and interviews with the staff at UNICEF Supply Division Copenhagen. In the end suggestions for the actual size of the concept is given and different potential user scenarios are mapped.
Abstract Redesign af Vaccine Carrier giver først en kort analyse af kølekæden, der relaterer sig til vaccinedistributionen fra en indisk leverandør til et såkaldt service delivery point i Uganda. Analysen viser at de fleste problemer der relaterer sig til kølekæden starter ved tolden i modtagerlandene og bliver gradvist større jo længere man bevæger sig ud i kølekæden. Det valgte artefakt til at redesigne er en vaccine carrier, en lille køletaske til varmefølsomme vacciner, som bliver brugt i det allersidste led i kæden ud til børn beboende i fjerne områder. Konceptualiseringen af vaccine carrier resulterer i fire ændrede områder: Sprækker til kølelementer så man forhindrer frysning af fryse-sensitive vacciner, en fordybning i bunden af tasken til lettere fragt af tasken på hovedet, to små fordybninger til at placere vacciner i når immunisering er i gang og til sidst en samling af det ydre og indre låg, så man kun skal bruge et samlet låg. De fire forbedringer er baseret på interviews og workshops med medarbejderne fra UNICEF Supply division København. Til sidst er der givet forslag til konceptets endelige mål og forskellige brugerscenarier er opstillet ved brugen af den nye koncept.
