Abstract This thesis concerns the performance of friction in the sheet metal forming process bending under tension for different coated carbon steel sheets and one kind of stainless steel sheets. This work contributes to control the forming process by choosing reasonable operating parameters under a specific tribological condition. Also the galling tendency for all tests in different tribological conditions have been roughly investigated by observing the micrographs of tools and tracking the histories of the coefficient of friction. The tests for different coated carbon sheets were focused on investigating the different coatings affecting the friction under one drawing speed and maximums back tension force. The tests for the stainless steel sheet were objected to investigate the different operating parameters affecting the friction under a specific operating condition as well as the different lubricants.
