One of the aims of this thesis was to investigate if FLSmidth should have only one main supplier of the cooler hydraulics. Furthermore, it was desired to examine why the already established cooperation with the cooler hydraulic supplier Bosch Rexroth does not function optimally, and how the cooperation could become strong and beneficial in the future if Bosch Rexroth is remained as supplier.
To be able to complete the thesis, it was necessary to consider several perspectives and conduct several analyses. The main approaches were: a marketing analysis, a technical perspective, an economic analysis and a cooperation analysis. The sources used throughout the thesis were both primary and secondary. The main findings of the approaches formed the basis of achieving the aims of this thesis.
Through the investigations it was found that FLSmidth should have one main supplier of cooler hydraulics. It was determined that FLSmidth would gain most benefits of having one main supplier, if the chosen supplier is going to be Bosch Rexroth. This was concluded based on Bosch Rexroth having its core competencies on the cooler hydraulic supply, and because an already established and familiar cooperation on cooler hydraulics is present.
Throughout the thesis, it was, though, clarified why the cooperation between Bosch Rexroth and FLSmidth does not function optimally. The most mentioned dissatisfaction area of FLSmidth was the inactiveness of Bosch Rexroth of expanding the production of cooler hydraulics to China. This expansion could result in lowered prices. Additionally, Bosch Rexroth was especially unsatisfied with the lack of a cooperation focus of FLSmidth, and the change of people involved in the cooperation within FLSmidth. All together, it was found that recently there has been a decrease in the satisfaction level from both parties regarding the cooperation.
It was uncovered that different initiatives could be conducted in order to minimise and solve several of the cooperation dissatisfaction areas. The most important initiatives were considered to be creating a shared vision of the cooperation and implementing it within FLSmidth, and to re-involve key persons in the cooperation within FLSmidth in order to optimise the communication and problem solving between the parties. Additionally, Bosch Rexroth should be proactive to start the expansion of the production of cooler hydraulics in China. Furthermore, it was found that a Price List Agreement should be established, as it could solve numerous of the daily experienced dissatisfaction areas and disagreements.
