Abstract Abstract

This thesis contains an evaluation of potential biomass strategy scenarios, and a final recommendation for Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S.

The scenarios are based on an analysis of the Nordic market, including critical success factors and Babcock & Wilcox Vølund’s position in the market, a combustion technology comparison, and an analysis of the organization.

The findings of the analysis show that the Nordic market, except Finland, is one of the most attractive markets to focus on even though there is some strong competition. Additionally, Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S does not have the right combustion technology to satisfy all segments in the market. However, Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S is capable of optimizing their performance in the Nordic biomass market

The thesis concludes that Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S should focus on their multi-fuel systems in order to increase market share in the Nordic market within the set timeframe. This niche segment offers the best possibilities for Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S considering their core competences.
