Title IBSR SUPPORT SYSTEM : A Study of its Opportunities for Schneider Electric Denmark and its Potential on the Danish Market

Abstract Denmark has a large ship owner industry, where many vessels are equipped with Schneider Electric electric automation and distribution equipment. Currently, Schneider Electric only offers support specialized in marine equipment during normal working hours. Outside working hours ship owners must wait or use a general hotline for all kinds of Schneider products with limited knowledge in marine support.
To improve this circumstance, a new support system has been developed by Schneider Electric Global Marine Service (GMS). IBSR operates 24/7 and is specialized in marine equipment. Though, there exists relatively no written information about this new support system.
Schneider Electric Denmark is interested in receiving facts and data about IBSR in order to decide the potential of the system and whether it could be a profitable business. This study is to decide the potential of IBSR and to come up with a final recommendation to whether Schneider Electric Denmark should implement the system.
The facts and data have been retrieved through interviews with experts on the matter and through hands-on analysis of the system.
The marketing plan has been made by using a number of mercantile theories and by interviewing large ship owners and industry experts.
The study revealed that there is a wide gap between how the system is intended to work and how it works in reality. Moreover, many of the features of IBSR do not apply for the Danish ship owner market. The final recommendation has been not to implement the IBSR system, as it would require time and financial ressources for Danish ship owners to use and only offer few advantages. However, some of its features do apply for Danish ship owners and could be used for creating a better support offer.
