|Abstract||MAN Diesel & Turbo have developed “PMI Auto-tuning” which is a system that continuously monitor and evaluates the combustion process for closed loop control of their large bore two-stroke diesel engines.
This project will as a proof of concept look in to the possibility of identifying the fuel ignition point on a real time cylinder combustion pressure signals. Such identification will improve the PMI Auto-tuning ability to determine the dynamic Top Dead Center, paramount to correct adjustment and operation of the engine.
The fuel ignition point will be calculated by the implementation of numerical differentiation.
The target for this project is to implement the calculations directly in the FPGA, of the embedded proprietary data acquisition unit of the PMI Auto-tuning system.
