|Abstract||The aim of the feasibility study is to illuminate how Deltapix can optimize their current sales channel, including a determination of alternative platforms for selling microscope solutions and equipment. Consequently, a direct distribution channel is selected which eliminates intermediaries, resulting in a larger profit margin. A web shop is the chosen platform due to its ability of reaching the intended target group combined with the low operating costs.
Benefits of penetrating the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian market through a web shop are examined. The results are then used as the bases for penetrating these markets. Furthermore, a market research indicated great potential for the web shop and its products as the governments in the selected countries have allocated funds to support research and development which ultimately creates a demand for products provided on the web shop. Additionally, the industry analysis proved that there are many competitors on the market. The entry barriers are relatively low due to high operating costs. In addition, the threat from substituting products and the bargaining power of suppliers is low. Microscope systems and equipment are niche products, meaning that the there is a narrow target group interested in buying these products.
The internal and external factors proved that Deltapix has strengths in terms of competitive prices, wide range of products, technical capabilities, etc. These strengths are useful during the development of the web shop.
The development of the web shop is based on open source software which fulfills Deltapix’s requirements regarding a web shop. This method enables Deltapix to customize the design of the web shop at low costs. The configurator is an essential element in the web shop which is designed to accommodate customers’ needs in terms assembling a microscope system. The logic behind the configurator is described the technical aspect in the report.
The project is estimated to achieve a net income of 129,724.10 DKK the first year. The net income is expected to grow with 40 % the second year and 20 % the third year.
