Title Power line modem for Smart-Grid Electric Vehicle Chargers

Abstract This bachelor project describes the design and implementation for a power line communication modem. The modem is meant to be used in an Electrical Vehicle Supply Unit in order to gain connection to other chargers.
The Electrical Vehicle deployment is already started and the numbers of Electrical Vehicles are expected to increase rapidly in the near future. However, the power grid is not ready for this deployment due to heavy peak currents in the rush hour. The current consumption must be controlled why an energy meter and a communication link between chargers is needed.
The main goal for this bachelor project is to gain a solid power line communication link between these chargers in order to make them intelligent and to avoid that the power grid is getting overloaded. The test showed good results in terms of expected communication distance of 1 km. At a residential road a radius of 500 meters is realized which is acceptable in order to use the modem in a complete charger solution.
