Abstract As a bachelor project at DTU Ballerup Campus, I have chosen to design and test a new type of a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) for the company JK Turbine.

The new VAWT concept named JOKU Lamella Wind Turbine and is based on the Savonius wind turbine, but with flexible blades (the lamellas) instead of fixed blades. The flexible lamella should reduce the drag when the blades are in the headwind direction. This causing a more efficient wind turbine, and probably a more efficient wind turbine than current wind turbines. Especially the S-shaped Savonius turbine (efficiency ≥ 18 %).1

The JOKU Lamella Wind Turbine concept will be developed and build for a test in a wind tunnel.
