|Abstract||This is the final project in the education as a mechanical engineer at Technical University of Denmark, Ballerup Campus, executed in 6th semester, from 1st.02.2013 to 31st.05.2013.
The report covers the process of designing a device to increase efficiency of the exhaust valve of ME diesel engine. The main objective is injecting a certain amount of lubrication oil to extend the close period of exhaust valve. Meanwhile, this change should not have influence on other main engine properties.
Two different directions of approaches are evaluated, followed with different solutions. By systematic selection one of the concepts is chosen as the most suitable.
The concept is then changed into construction. Manual calculations are made to determine the dimension of each component. Connections to the original construction are designed to ensure proper function of the new design. Finally the construction and connections are built in NX 7.5, which is the CAD drawing tool used by MAN.
The solution to the project is a boost pump pressured by Hydraulic Power Supply, which is controlled by a proportional valve.
All the dimensions used in the project are from S50ME-B9 diesel engine. The same design principle applies to all the other ME diesel engines of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE.
