Abstract The purpose of this project is to design a hydraulic system for a mechanical lifting device. Hydraulic power is a common and efficient method of generating large amounts of force using Pascal’s principal. I will be writing my project in parallel with my employment at PMC Hydraulics AB. We supply bespoke industrial hydraulic systems to be used in the mining, energy, food and marine industries.
The hydraulic system will be designed based on a specific set of criteria for a lifting device which I have designed earlier in my education. During the course of this project I will perform calculations on the hydraulic system, analyze it using advanced computational fluid dynamics simulations, FEA stress simulations and design the model using CAD software.
