Abstract A Flyback converter with active clamp is designed. The power level is nominal 375 W. The power-design is prepared for PFC operation and the switch frequency is 120 kHz. Three different transformers are designed (taking proximity effect into account), build and tested in order to investigate winding layouts, the use of single solid copper wire and Litz wire. Litz wire results in the highest transformer efficiency but at a higher cost and a poorer utilization of the transformer bobbin. Maximum converter efficiency is more than 92 % at DC/DC operation excluding control-power.
